Actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista has been open over the years about his weight and changing physique. He once revealed he suffered from ‘reverse anorexia’ for a decade.
In a 2019 interview, the celebrity explained what his early life was like, before getting into professional wrestling. His weight was on the higher end of the scale as he struggled to ‘know his next move’ after having two daughters. The movie star continues documenting his body’s changes and fluctuations with fans.
Dave Bautista’s struggles with weight
Dave Bautista told The New York Times that after the arrival of his two daughters, whom he had with his first wife, Glenda, he “had no plan for what to do next.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy actor would work night shifts before going to the gym for “a few hours.” Dave said he was going through a tough time in his life, and had what he called “reverse anorexia.”
At the time, he weighed about 300 pounds but felt he was “never big enough” despite his gym habit. He would then sleep throughout the day after working as a bouncer.
“The next thing you know, 10 years goes by, and there I am trying to borrow money to buy my kids Christmas presents,” he told the publication. “I wasted my 20s.”

Dave documents his journey with fitness
On his Instagram, Dave Bautista has often shared snaps of his progress with his weight journey.
In an interview with Men’s Health, he shared the gym was his “sanctuary” and his diet no longer consists of meat or dairy. He explained he sometimes misses chicken, though.
“The only thing that’s killing me is because I grew up on chicken adobo, which is a very common standard Filipino dish. And it’s one of the few dishes that I make constantly. I make it for myself, I make it for my friends,” the Hollywood star said.
“And now I still make it for my friends, but I have to just sit there and watch them eat it, and it’s torture.”
In 2022, he told followers he was trying to move away from having a “fatty status” in a lengthy caption accompanied by a mirror selfie. He’s still working on himself.
“So I was trying to take a solid pic of myself to document my transition to fatty status. Which will soon come to an end thank god!” he penned.
Fans concerned about Dave
However, despite his struggles with his health and weight, the star was spotted in a picture posted to X (formerly Twitter) in that year, and fans became concerned due to what appeared to be significant weight loss.
A fourth penned: “That is 100% NOT Bautista.”
Someone else wrote: “My goat looking old [heartbreak emoji].”
“He looks unrecognizable almost without his gains,” another said.
