A civilian employee with the Mississippi National Guard’s Youth ChalleNGe academy and restaurateur was charged with grand larceny for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food meant for the Shelby program.

Jerry L. Howard, 50, the youth academy’s dining facility manager and owner of Jerry’s Seasonal Food is accused of taking food from the academy and using it in his restaurant, State Auditor Stacey Pickering said. Food was found at his Hattiesburg residence and the restaurant.
