Thousands of residents and tourists started to gather along the waterfront hours before Sunday’s fireworks show as the city logged its warmest New Year’s Eve on record, at 25.7 degrees Celsius at the Hong Kong Observatory. At Tamar Park in Admiralty, one of the spots with the best views for the fireworks, some arrived as early as 6pm. People sat on picnic mats and portable recliners, shared refreshments and listened to music as they waited for the countdown.

President Xi Jinping will chair the two-day inaugural China-Central Asia summit starting May 18, the Chinese foreign ministry announced on Monday.Xi’s counterparts from the five Central Asian states – Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan – would attend the summit in the northwestern Chinese city of Xian, the ministry said. The highly anticipated “C+C5” summit is seen as a Beijing-led mission to boost strategic cooperation with Central Asia on a raft of issues, including its Belt and Road Initiative and efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, from 5-8 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Bay Springs Baptist Church.  Funeral services will follow at 11 at the church. A private family graveside service will be at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
